Happy Friday to you! We prepared this video for you, just to help you visualize how fast our kids grow and fly out on their own path.
It is mostly important to remember, that even in the most challenging moments, we parents are the ones that provide the experience over the years they grow up. And they grow up so fats....to fast... Weekend is just ahead, so why not start right now and create unforgettable experiences? You might say, my kids are all in their computers, games extra curriculum activities... so BE PART OF IT, do not just deliver and pick them up, JOIN IN...and most off all pay attention of what they SAY,...LISTEN TO WHAT THEY WANT! We are here to mentor them and show them the ways, we are not here to decide for them...but we are responsible for their decisions. I know....but it is more simple than you think it will be. Just listen...and create the possibility and experience it together! Katy Toma, Holistic Teacher, Educator, Parenting Expert

Many years ago now, when we kind of started to understand what are the main things that education need to change, the concept of personalized learning was the first we tried out. We did this, because kids when we talk to kids, how would they change the system, they always started with: if had my school .... We organized a group of 13 kids/ just a lucky number, actually we invited 15 just 2 of them could not make it/ and we had bring them from different corners of the county, so they do not know each other, different ages, from 8 to 14, and of course different genders. We ask them if they would be interested for the next 3 days, to create a fashion show. We had a plan B also, as we thought that the teenage boys would simply walk out the door, hearing the topic. But there was not an issue. After watching for 3 minutes a youtube about fashion show they immediately started to work on it. Actually there was one: sending them home at the end f the day. They were focused, creative and delivered the show exactly at 1 pm after 3 days in full work, They worked individually , in groups always adding in their best personal skills. At the end they all knew and understand about sewing, crafting, modeling, setting up a catwalk, the show, the event and all that includes a fashion show. They learn that it is a team work, the importance of preparation, elements of the show...colors and also some pr and marketing as they had promoted and sold tickets to their fashion show. No mater of the topic, it is always the same. The RESPONSIBILITY, the CHOICE and the INTEREST, the FREEDOM of the process makes them avid learners and focused on the topic. Results are always the same: happy kids, excited about every moment and capable to reproduce and implement every step of the process. So, instead of talking about Personalized Learning, we should follow the kids example and just work on it and let it happens. It is not loosing the control it is exactly about taking the control back and being able to teach and not to discipline and handle bored and frustrated kids. The change in education will happen anyway...so why just not allow it, instead of resist it..and instead of attacking and blaming the system, just allow to change the way our kids learn? Just implement this way of teaching for a few days, or at home allow your kids to finalize a project by personalizing it to their understanding...than let us know, the results. I can promise you, the result will be ...over your expectation. |
